SGA DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS

Reports to: SGA President


General Description

The Director of Communications is an appointed member of the Executive Committee and chairs the Public Relations (PR) Committee. She/he is responsible for effectively facilitating external communications between SGA and the APU student body. The DOC also oversees The Table, SGA’s annual Homecoming event.


Duties of the DOC

  • Chair weekly meetings with the PR Committee

  • Determine PR goals and timeline, delegating tasks accordingly

  • Maintain the SGA website

  • Manage the SGA Instagram account

  • Devise and implement marketing strategies for SGA projects throughout the term (ie. posters, social media, website, etc.)

  • Oversee marketing for Representative and Elections recruitment

  • Chair the Table Committee and oversee event planning process

  • Meet with the SGA President and SGA Advisor as needed


General Duties

  • Up to 12 hours of work per week

  • Serve on committees as appointed by the President

  • Attend weekly Executive Committee meetings

  • Attend all SGA Business Meetings

    • Business Meetings are held on Wednesdays from 4:30-5:30pm. It is the responsibility of the candidate to incorporate these meetings into their class schedule.

  • Attend at least two on-campus events each semester

  • Attend all MANDATORY retreats and orientations, including:

    • Summer Training (August)

    • Spring Training


Qualifications*

  • Recommended to be a Public Relations, Communications, or Graphic Design major

  • Must be an undergraduate member of APU as defined by the Registrar

  • Must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 during one full semester prior to term of office, maintained throughout the term of office

  • Must be prepared to hold office both Fall and Spring semesters

  • Must proclaim and adhere to the University Statement of Faith and Student Leadership Covenant

  • Must have attended the University for at least two semesters upon beginning the position

  • May not hold any other executive on-campus leadership positions during tenure

  • May not work over 10 hours per week outside of SGA
